Xavi has urged Barcelona fans to “dream” following a week of remarkable results in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2020 by defeating Serie A champions SSC Napoli midweek. They followed up this achievement with a historic 3-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Civitas Metropolitano, with goals from Robert Lewandowski, Joao Felix, and Fermin Lopez.

These victories mark an extension of Barcelona’s exceptional form since Xavi announced his departure from the club at the end of the 2023/24 season. Currently on a 10-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, there is renewed optimism that Barcelona could make a serious bid for the Champions League title.

Speaking to the press after the dominant win against Atletico, Xavi praised his team’s recent performances and emphasized the excitement surrounding Barcelona’s Champions League prospects.

“We’re playing well, and we can dream. We can’t dismiss anything; I keep emphasizing this to the players. Perhaps this was our best match of the season,” he remarked.

“We displayed brilliance throughout various stages of the match. We understood how to attack, and the match resembled our performance against Napoli.

“They pressed our center-backs, and we had to exploit space behind them, particularly in the second half with Koke. We managed it effectively. I believe this match perfectly showcased our approach and playing philosophy. We’re thrilled; everything unfolded perfectly according to plan.

“This victory is spectacular, earning three invaluable points. This is the Barcelona we aspire to witness. As a manager, I am immensely content today.

“It’s a time to dream. I am happy and fulfilled.”

Barcelona is now poised to face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in April, with the victor advancing to a semi-final clash against either Atletico or Borussia Dortmund.
