La Liga has reportedly dismissed the case involving Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Getafe loanee Mason Greenwood, related to an alleged slur. The incident occurred on February 1 during a match in the top tier of Spanish football, where the two England-capped players crossed paths. Bellingham delivered a robust challenge to Greenwood during the game, and he was caught on camera mouthing something afterward. Getafe reported the incident, claiming that Bellingham used a derogatory term, accusing Greenwood of being a “rapist.” La Liga initiated an investigation and enlisted a lip-reading expert.
According to Marca, the matter has been withdrawn, indicating that no disciplinary action will be taken. The difficulty in definitively determining whether Bellingham said “rapist” or “rubbish” contributed to this decision. Notably, Greenwood, a Manchester United player, had faced legal issues in January 2022 but was cleared of all accusations in February 2023.
With the case resolved, both Bellingham and Greenwood can now shift their focus back to football. Greenwood is expected to finalize his permanent departure from Old Trafford in the upcoming summer, while Bellingham, who scored 20 goals in his debut season at Santiago Bernabeu, is set to serve a domestic ban following a red card in a contentious match against Valencia.
