Nigeria’s senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, has withdrawn from the AfroBasket 2025 qualifiers due to financial constraints, as disclosed on D’Tigers’ official communication platform.
The team was initially slated to commence the qualifiers on Saturday, 23rd February, facing Libya. Currently, there are reports suggesting that the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is urgently seeking financial support from the Ministry of Sports to enable D’Tigers’ participation in the qualifiers.
The AfroBasket 2025 qualification tournament is scheduled to take place from February to November 2024, determining the 16 nations that will advance to the FIBA AfroBasket 2025. D’Tigers were drawn in Group B alongside Uganda, Cape Verde, and Libya for the first window of the qualifiers, set to be held in Tunisia.
