Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has responded to losing the Golden Glove at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to South Africa’s captain, Ronwen Williams.
Nwabali, who could have secured the accolade with another clean sheet against Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday, fell short after conceding two goals. Despite the outcome, the Nigerian goalkeeper acknowledges Williams as a deserving recipient of the Golden Glove.
Ronwen Williams, a Mamelodi Sundowns player, clinched the Best Goalkeeper award for his instrumental role in guiding South Africa to win the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations. Williams made history by becoming the first goalkeeper to save four penalties in a single AFCON shootout.

Throughout the tournament, Williams maintained five clean sheets and conceded three goals, while Nwabali secured four clean sheets and conceded four goals.
“Ronwen Williams is a very skilled goalkeeper, to be honest. It’s not surprising to me that he won it; he deserves it. I am competing with this kind of guy, and he has the chance to win the best goalkeeper of the tournament. He deserves it. I wish him well, and I give him credit,” expressed Nwabali.
