Former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has made his prediction for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, foreseeing a showdown between Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

Ivory Coast secured a 2-1 victory against Mali, while the Super Eagles triumphed over Angola, earning them spots in the tournament’s last four.

Mikel’s forecast implies a potential rematch between the two teams, as they previously clashed in the group stage, with Jose Peseiro’s side securing a narrow victory of one goal against the Elephants.

During an episode of The Obi One podcast, when asked about the possibility of an Ivory Coast versus Nigeria final, Mikel stated, “I think so. I was thinking about it the other day and I was thinking that we managed to beat them in the group stage, and they were on the verge of leaving the tournament. Suddenly, they are back in it and now they have got a wind with them. They are playing prettily okay but not so well, but they have started to win games and now if they can manage to get to the final, who knows?”
