The report said that the thugs broke into the deceased’s compound and began firing randomly to frighten away neighbors and onlookers.

The inspector’s murder was the third in a string of horrific events that started in January and included the beheading of a woman near the Uyo banking layout, the murder of a woman on Sunday night, and the disposal of her dismembered body by the side of the road in the Nwaniba area of the state, tucked inside a Ghana-Must-Go bag.

Odiko Mac-Don, the public relations officer for the state police, acknowledged the occurrence and called it regrettable when contacted.

According to Mac-Don, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, the state commissioner of police, has directed a covert probe into the inspector’s death.

Nothing would be spared, he continued, to make sure the offenders are brought to justice.

“We are aware of the information, and the circumstances are regrettable. We are dedicated to clearing the streets of criminal elements, and the Commissioner of Police has already initiated an investigation.

“The incident hasn’t stopped us, but we’re still determined to hold criminals accountable for their deeds,” Macdon declared.
