Onuachu, the towering 6ft 8in striker from Trabzonspor, now seizes the opportunity to represent his country at the AFCON, taking over the role vacated by the injured Real Sociedad player. Unfortunately, Umar Sadiq’s absence from the 34th AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire is attributed to an untimely injury, contributing to the mounting injury crisis faced by the Super Eagles, with Victor Boniface also sidelined due to a knee problem.

As Sadiq was conspicuously absent during the Super Eagles’ training session in Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday, the coaching team, led by Jose Peseiro, acted promptly to secure Paul Onuachu as the replacement, as reported by OJB on X.com.

Paul Onuachu, who has displayed excellent form since his transfer from England to the Turkish Super Lig, boasts an impressive record of nine goals and three assists in 15 appearances for Trabzonspor. With his recent success at the club level, Onuachu now aspires to replicate his performance on the international stage, joining his national teammates in Cote d’Ivoire for Africa’s premier football tournament, AFCON2023.
