The club is now reportedly making efforts to keep Onana for the crucial Premier League encounter with Tottenham on January 14, just one day before Cameroon’s AFCON campaign commences.
The plan is for Onana to depart Old Trafford immediately after the Tottenham match, taking a seven-hour flight to join Cameroon’s camp in the Ivory Coast before their game against Guinea on January 15. If Cameroon advances beyond the group stage, there is a possibility that Onana may miss no United games at all. If the last group stage match is against Gambia on January 23, he could potentially return in time for either an FA Cup fourth-round tie on the weekend of January 27/28 or Manchester United’s Premier League match away at Wolves on February 1.
