The 2023 AFCON Super Eagles camp has officially commenced in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with most of the invited players already present.
Head coach Jose Peseiro and his coaching staff were the initial arrivals at the camp. Subsequently, players such as Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, Fulham’s Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina, and Southampton’s Joe Aribo joined the camp on Tuesday, January 2, 2023. All attendees are set to initiate training on January 3, with the camp scheduled to run until January 9.
Following the training camp, the team will depart for Lagos on Tuesday and subsequently travel to Abidjan on Wednesday, January 10, for the main tournament.

Before the AFCON kick-off, the Super Eagles plan to engage in two friendly matches in Abu Dhabi against Burkina Faso and Cape Verde. As of now, specific dates and kick-off times for these closed-door friendly games have not been disclosed.
Upon arriving in Abidjan for the 2023 AFCON, the Super Eagles will have a four-day preparation period for their opening match against Equatorial Guinea in Group A at the Ebimpe Olympic Stadium on January 14. Four days later, they will face the tournament hosts, Ivory Coast, at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé on January 18. The final group-stage encounter is against Guinea Bissau on January 22.
