AC Milan icon Paolo Maldini has disclosed his attempt to sign Lionel Messi for the club. Maldini, who served as the Technical Director of the Serie A side until his dismissal at the conclusion of the last season, shared that he endeavored to secure Messi’s signature when the Argentine was departing Barcelona as a free agent in 2021.
Maldini revealed, “For 10 days we tried to bring Messi to Milan, but then we realized it was impossible. It is too late now, but a player like Messi is a spectacle for anyone to witness. When I read that he might even go to Inter, I got scared,” during an appearance on the PoretCast show.
Despite Maldini’s efforts, Messi eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal, and subsequently, he currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS.
