In connection with the reported death of Miss Toyin Bamidele, an HND1 student at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, in the state, who was found dead in her room last Thursday, the Kwara State Police Command has announced that it has detained a suspect.

A statement signed by the state’s commissioner of police, Mr. Victor Olaiya, claims that the student was killed in her room at a private hostel in the Offa state’s Dapson neighborhood.

“Kwara State Police Command received information about the alleged murder of Toyin Bamidele, an HND 1 student at Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, on November 16, 2023, at approximately 1720 hours through the Divisional Police Headquarters, Offa.”

The command stated that the event happened in the Dapson Extension neighborhood, where the 23-year-old Toyin, who is a student at the polytechnic studying food technology, lived. It further stated that “she was found lying in a pool of blood on the premises of her rented apartment.”

“A group of detectives headed by the Divisional Police Officer, Offa Division, was sent to the scene of the occurrence upon receiving the information. Some marks of violence on the face and neck regions of the body were discovered during the scene’s preliminary inspection.

After being taken to Wale Clinic and Hospital, a medical professional pronounced the deceased person dead. The deceased’s body has been placed in the mortuary for an autopsy.

In connection with the case, one suspect has been taken into custody. According to the statement, he is currently assisting the police with their investigation.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s resolve to identify the source of this crime and stated that she would not back down from her difficult task of ensuring the safety and security of the public and their property.

“The public is asked to exercise awareness and caution during this time, as malevolent individuals are out there searching for prey to devour.”
