Despite Conte’s later attempts to reconcile and reintegrate Mikel Obi into the team during a rough period for Chelsea, the midfielder declined the offer.

“Conte called me to his office and asked me to play again. I said, ‘No, thank you very much. I have already made up my mind I wanted to go anyway,'” Mikel Obi shared on the Vibe with Five podcast.

He sought counsel from Didier Drogba, who advised him to make a change when such situations arise. Acting on this advice, Mikel Obi decided to leave Chelsea and eventually joined the Chinese club Tianjin TEDA.
