A move to control the growth of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the state has been put forth by Hon. Lawal Isah Kuraye, a member of the Katsina State House of Assembly who represents the Charanchi local government area.
He brought a motion to the house floor expressing concern about the need to limit the number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and development agenda groups operating in the state and to establish a regulatory system for them.
By doing this, he continued, the interests of the State and its citizens will be safeguarded, particularly with regard to the preservation of the State’s security, integrity, and growth.

The regulatory body will establish transparent and unambiguous standards for NGOs to register in Katsina State, guaranteeing that no NGO functions without the appropriate registration and authorization from the state agency, according to Hon. Kuraye.
Communities, associations, and their leaders who associate with any non-governmental organization (NGO) without proper government registration and approval will face penalties.
To make sure that registered NGOs are adhering to their declared goals and are in line with the state’s development objectives, the regulatory body will conduct periodic reviews of their operations and effects.
