Addressing the growing injury concerns, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag noted, ‘Players are finding it increasingly difficult to manage this excessive workload.’
The Dutchman conveyed his concerns on the very day when his defender, Lisandro Martinez, was ruled out until the end of the year, pushing the count of injured Red Devils’ players to eight.
Ten Hag revealed that during the summer, he deliberately bolstered his squad by signing seven new players in an effort to mitigate injuries. However, he still faces a stretched team, with the recent non-injury absences of Jadon Sancho and Antony compounding the challenges.

“We had a World Cup in the midst of the season, a prolonged season with additional fixtures, including the FA Cup and Nations League matches, and subsequently, a shorter break,” explained the Dutchman.
“Consistently, the schedule keeps expanding, imposing an excessive burden on the players. Numerous colleagues of mine have highlighted this concern, and I’ve voiced it too. However, the trend of expanding the schedule continues.
“Players are struggling to cope with this excessive workload, and I believe that’s evident in the condition of our squad at the moment.”
