Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has shared his insights into the factors contributing to his team’s 1-0 loss against Aston Villa during Sunday’s Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.
As previously reported, Aston Villa secured all three points with a second-half goal from Ollie Watkins, and Chelsea’s Malo Gusto received a red card during the match.
During his post-match press conference, Pochettino suggested that the red card Chelsea received had a significant impact on the game’s trajectory. He stated, “In the first half, I believe we deserved more. We began the second half strongly, but the game changed after the red card.”

Pochettino emphasized that his players missed several scoring opportunities against Unai Emery’s team and also had some bad luck against their opponents. He remarked, “Our performance was good, though not outstanding, and we are struggling to find the back of the net.”
Looking ahead, Pochettino said, “Tomorrow, we begin preparations for Wednesday and hope to score then. We’ve had a bit of bad luck; we had numerous chances, similar to Aston Villa’s, but their shot found the target. That’s football; we must accept it as reality. Despite being reduced to 10 men, we pushed them back and created numerous opportunities.”
