Nigerian artist Davido Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has criticized Nigerian celebrities who plan to ask their fans for birthday money and those who reveal their bank account information online.
Davido gave a task to his close friends and associates on Tuesday night, November 16th, ahead of his 29th birthday on November 21st, 2021.
The Nigerian celebrity asked his friends and anybody who had appreciated his songs to send 1 million Naira each to his account in a post on his Instagram story.

In what appeared to be a joke, Davido’s bank account pulled in almost N100 million from a slew of celebrities including Mr Eazi, Nengi, Zlatan, Dorathy Bachor, Oba Elegushi, Cubana Chiefpries, and others in less than 24 hours.
Many Nigerian celebrities posted their bank details online and solicited birthday money from their followers and friends ahead of their birthdays, causing controversy on social media.
It’s unknown whether some of the superstars who released their bank account information publicly, such as Davido, got money from their followers or pals.
Davido, on the other hand, made headlines on Saturday, November 20, 2021, when he said that he would donate the N201 million he received as a birthday gift from friends and acquaintances, as well as an additional N50 million, to various charity organizations around Nigeria.
Many Nigerian celebs descended on the page with photos of Davido and lavished praise on him for his surprise kindness.
With Davido’s recent actions, celebrities may find it harder to solicit followers for freebies or birthday surprises on their birthdays.
Some commenters advised people who had likely gotten a token from their followers to emulate Davido by donating to charity.
