Christian Pulisic’s underwhelming four-year stint at West London has come to a close, marking the end of his once-touted status as the “next Eden Hazard.”

The former captain of the US Men’s National Team joined Chelsea in the summer of 2019, though the agreement to sign the 24-year-old from Borussia Dortmund was initially intended to be finalized earlier. Due to financial constraints, Pulisic was compelled to join Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

Upon his arrival, Pulisic inherited the No. 22 jersey, previously worn by Brazilian international Willian, who departed for Arsenal on a free transfer. Known for his exciting style of play and his ability to trouble opponents during his time in the Bundesliga, Pulisic swiftly made an impact in the Premier League. However, he struggled with frequent injuries during his first full season at Stamford Bridge.

Despite the setbacks, Pulisic eventually reached new heights at Chelsea, assuming the iconic No. 10 jersey previously occupied by Eden Hazard. His second year at the club was remarkable, as he became the first Chelsea player to score a Premier League goal since Hazard’s departure in 2019. Pulisic’s pace and mesmerizing footwork consistently posed a threat to opposition defenders on the left flank.

However, Pulisic’s third year at West London took a different trajectory. He lost the captain’s armband at the international level and made only ten appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea.

Now, the 24-year-old has completed a £22m transfer to AC Milan, where he will reunite with his former Chelsea teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek at the San Siro this summer.

Considering Pulisic’s departure, let’s now explore three potential candidates who could don the No. 10 shirt at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming season.

1. Christopher Nkunku To Wear Chelsea No 10 Jersey

Following his £65m transfer from RB Leipzig this summer, the Frenchman has emerged as a strong contender to inherit the iconic shirt number at Chelsea.

2. Mykhalio Mudryk To Wear Chelsea No 10 Jersey

Despite currently donning the No. 15 jersey at Chelsea, the 21-year-old is expected to play a crucial role in Pochettino’s plans for the upcoming season. As a result, there is speculation that he could potentially switch to the coveted No. 10 shirt to signify his increased importance within the team.

3. Raheem Sterling To Wear Chelsea No 10 Jersey

Despite enduring a disastrous debut campaign for Chelsea, the Englishman remains in consideration for the No. 10 shirt. The club recognizes his potential and may give him another opportunity to prove himself in the upcoming season.
