The Anambra-born club owner arrived to the EFCC offices in Jabi, Abuja, about midday on Monday and is currently being grilled by the commission’s operatives.

Though details about the claims against the socialite were scarce at press time, a source said his case included alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

“On Monday afternoon, Obi Cubana was detained and transported to the EFCC headquarters over allegations of money laundering and tax fraud,” the source added. Detectives are questioning him right now.”

Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesman for the EFCC, said he had not yet been briefed on the situation when called.

In July, Obi Cubana arranged a grandiose funeral for his mother, Ezinne Iyiegbu, in Oba, Anambra State, according to Naijatimes.

Obi Cubana has been an inspirational grass-to-grace figure after his funeral became the talk of the town, appearing in interviews telling stories of how he started in a one-room apartment as a young graduate undertaking the mandated national youth service in Abuja in 1999.

He started as an estate agent and made his first N1 million through a house furnishing contract he obtained at the time, he told BBC Pidgin.

He now controls vast investments in entertainment, hospitality, and real estate, among other things.
