The career of Gabonese forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been on an up-and-down rollercoaster over the past 12 months. Just one year ago, in the January transfer window of the 2021/22 season, the former captain of Arsenal was introduced as a Barcelona player at Spotify Camp Nou.

Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona was like a prison break for him because his career had hit a snag in the second half of the previous campaign due to his falling out of favor with Mikel Arteta, his former manager at Emirates Stadium.

Prior to the club terminating his contract and allowing him to join Barcelona on a free transfer in the winter of 2021/22, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was relieved of the captaincy at Emirates Stadium.

Under Xavi Hernandez, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was able to resurrect his career, aiding the Catalans in their second-place finish in the La Liga standings the previous campaign.

Aubameyang was acquired by Chelsea from Barcelona after what appeared to be a happy life at that club last season. Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea manager, and the former Arsenal star had a history of dating, which led the Blues to recruit him.

Aubameyang scored in back-to-back games during his initial stint at Chelsea, but it wasn’t long before the number 9 curse at Chelsea struck.
