Following discussions between Daniel Levy of Tottenham and Nasser Al-Khelaifi of Paris Saint-Germain, president of Paris Saint-Germain, Qatar Sports Investments [QSI] is considering buying a small stake in Manchester United.
The Glazers put Manchester United up for sale last year and are looking for “strategic” investment, which could be a minority interest or a full sell.
After Chelsea was sold for £4.5 billion, including a promise to spend £1.25 billion over the following ten years, the decision to put the club up for sale was made.
With the purchase of shares in a Premier League club, QSI hopes to capitalize on what they perceive to have been a successful World Cup and was a key component of Qatar’s successful bid for the 2022 event.
Owners are prohibited by UEFA regulations from owning a majority stake in two clubs that participate in the same competition.
Given that Manchester United appeared sure to place in the top four, QSI would have to sell Paris Saint-Germain in order to fully control the club.
QSI are still devoted to the Ligue 1 giants even though they are considering selling off about 15% of the organization.
As a result, QSI is considering taking a small share in Manchester United and has stated its interest in doing so.
