After the game, however, the Portuguese manager criticized the Premier League team’s allegedly reckless spending, lamenting the fact that he must ‘find a solution’ with his current players rather than merely adding a new one.

Jose Mourinho, the manager of Roma, took aim at Chelsea’s alleged buying spree.

His remarks were made on the same day that the Blues paid £88 million to recruit Mykhailo Mudryk (above).

He responded, “We must get the young players to improve, in order to have that quality,” when questioned about deploying defender Marash Kumbulla as Roger Ibanez’s backup. This trait belongs to (midfielder Benjamin) Tahirovic.

Cumbulla is likely the best defender at passing the ball out of defense, but Ibanez is needed due of his pace and tenacity. We need a solution; we can’t just spend £90 million on Mudryk!

“I don’t anticipate anyone to show up,” Tiago Pinto, the director, was frank and forthright; he said things that coaches ordinarily don’t like to hear.

Under Todd Boehly’s new leadership, the Premier League team has spent about £400 million.

The dream is that. With those kinds of almost endless resources, I worked at clubs. These days, there are more and more clubs that meet that description, but that is not our description. We put in a lot of effort and work within the limitations of our abilities.

With the arrivals of Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, and Marc Cucurella in the summer, Chelsea has already spent almost to £400 million on new players under Todd Boehly’s new management.

The team also acquired Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile for £35 million, and Joao Felix on loan until the end of the season for about £15 million during the January transfer window.
