Lionel Messi matches Cristiano Ronaldo’s record in the first PSG game after the World Cup.

In his first game since winning the 2022 World Cup, Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain scored as his club defeated Angers 2-0 in Ligue 1.

After the competition, the 35-year-old was given a leave of absence, thus he missed the matches against Strasbourg and Lens.

Although PSG increased their advantage over Lens at the top of Ligue 1 to six points, the Argentina captain played the entire 90 minutes of the game.

Hugo Ekitike, a forward, gave the home team the early advantage before Messi doubled it.

In 20 games so far this season, Messi has scored 13 goals.

As a result, he has now scored 696 goals for Barcelona and PSG in his senior career, matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s total in the top five leagues in Europe.

But Ronaldo, who is two years younger than Messi, has scored five goals for Sporting CP, bringing his club career total to 701 — five more than Messi.
