Fifty-two commercial tricycle operators, also known as Yan Adaidaita Sahu, have been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board for allegedly having immoral haircuts, peddling illegal narcotics and substances, and associating with women in their cars.
Agents from the Hisbah command captured the tricycle riders in various areas of the city of Kano.
Operation Kau da Badala, or the “Operation Fight against Immorality,” was a recent exercise that the Hisbah command announced would purge Kano State of immoral practices like drug addiction, prostitution, and the sale and use of alcohol, among other things.

“We want to use this opportunity to appeal to you to avoid such acts and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of our religion and culture of the Kano people,” said Sheikh Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, to the 52 tricycle riders on Friday.
It was gathered that the tricycle riders were taken to the board’s headquarters, where they were admonished by officials and subsequently released. He continued, citing other alleged offenses committed by the riders, such as riding around in only shorts, using offensive posters on their vehicles, mixing unrelated men and women, selling illegal drugs, and transporting women to locations where they engage in immoral acts. “As Muslims, we will not accept this behavior and activities of the tricycle riders. That is why we brought you here to admonish you on the negative implications of these acts on our religion and culture as people of Kano.”
