There were reports that a fire tragedy in Gwarzo market, the headquarters of Gwarzo Local Government Area in Kano State, destroyed 22 businesses, causing millions of naira worth of products and property to be lost by numerous traders.
Many of the victims of Monday’s conflagration were reported to have lost millions of naira in the tragedy, sending them into despair.
The incidence was verified by Rabiu Khalil, the Gwarzo Local Government Area’s Zonal Information Officer, in a statement that PUNCH Metro was able to obtain on Tuesday.

The statement stated, “The fire started last Sunday at midnight and it took the state fire service personnel up until Monday morning to finally put it out.”
Khalil clarified that although houses valued at millions of naira were damaged and dozens of shops were entirely destroyed by the fire, no one was hurt or killed in the tragedy.
Dayyabu Lawan Bala, one of the victims, claimed that the fire cost him products totaling more than N5 million.
He urged the government and other wealthy people to help them in order to lessen their misery.
“This catastrophic fire incident cost me N5 million worth of merchandise in my shop. He said, “I’m pleading with the state administration to save us.
Abdulahi Muazu Babangandu, the member of the House of Representatives representing the Gwarzo Federal Constituency, visited the affected traders to show his sympathies and gave N500,000 to the victims.
When contacted, Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the fire damaged a total of 22 stores.
But he clarified that two of the 22 stores were still being built.
“There were 22 impacted shops, two of which were incomplete,” stated Abdullahi.
