Cote d’Ivoire’s head coach, Jean-Louis Gasset, has expressed his profound respect for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
In the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Les Elephants and the Super Eagles are set to face off in the group stage. The tournament will begin with the hosts taking on Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus, while the Super Eagles will open their campaign against Equatorial Guinea. The much-anticipated clash between the former champions is scheduled for January 18 at the Alhassan Quattara Stadium.
Gasset acknowledged that both Cote d’Ivoire and the Super Eagles may not be as dominant as they once were but emphasized the importance of caution when facing their West African counterparts.

“Regrettably, we’ll be meeting Nigeria in our second match,” Gasset revealed to ACLSports. “I would have preferred it to be our final game. People say that the Elephants aren’t as formidable as they once were, and I see a similar situation for Nigeria.
“In the past, the Super Eagles were a force to be reckoned with, but times have changed. Nevertheless, they remain a solid team capable of defeating any opponent in the competition, so we must exercise caution.”
