There have apparently been as many as eleven fatalities in an accident on the Jebba/Ilorin Expressway early on Tuesday.
In the deadly collision involving two cars—an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus and a DAF truck—seven additional passengers suffered critical injuries.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said that the collision happened near Aiyere village on the Bode-Saadu-Ilorin highway at roughly 4.50 in the morning.

According to the FRSC, one of the vehicles’ improper overtaking and speeding caused the collision.
According to a statement released by Basambo Olayinka, the FRSC Public Relations Officer at Kwara Sector Command, the command was notified of the accident early on Tuesday morning.
Our workers at the Help and Rescue Camp, which was set up in Bode Saadu to support rescue efforts during the ongoing end-of-year special patrol operations, were immediately mobilized to the crash scene upon receiving the crash report. They conducted the rescue operation alongside members of the Nigerian Police Force, Divisional Headquarter, Bode Saadu.
According to preliminary investigations, a head-on collision with an approaching DAF truck occurred when the Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Gombe to Lagos mistakenly passed another car.
“A total of eighteen (adult males) were involved; seven were rescued with varied degrees of damage and transferred to Ifeoluwa Hospital, Bode Saadu, where they are still undergoing treatment. Eleven of them tragically lost their lives.”
The statement claimed that a thorough inquiry into the crash has already started under the direction of Sector Commander Stephen Dawulung.
“Kwara State Command and the Corps extend their sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
