If you haven’t already read it, I published a story about actress Nse Ikpe-Etim talking about how she felt when she learned that her friend at the time was having a relationship with her boyfriend. I’ll include a link to it at the end of this post so you may read it if you haven’t already. It turns out that Toke Makinwa, a media personality and actress, had the same experience as Nse Ikpe-Etim.

Speaking during her podcast, Toke Makinwa said of the incident:

TOKE MAKINWA: I had a best friend who we wore the same outfit, did the same hair, the reason why the guy slept with her was probably cuz she thought it was me because we were that close. We were twins. We were so close. I couldn’t forgive that. Both of them had to go. This wasn’t [me being] hard on her. My thing was the fact that when I even spoke to her about it, there was no humility. She felt like he shouldn’t even come between the both of us, and I’m like “really?” I walked in by the way on them. It’s not like it happened and I heard. I walked in, closed the door and apologized to them “sorry sorry sorry” because you don’t know how you will act if you’re in that kind of situation. It’s almost like you walk in on two people naked and you’re like “sorry”, that’s what happened to me. So I opened the door, she’s riding him, and I’m like “shit, sorry”. I swear! I close the door back, I sit on the table, and I’m like what just happened right now? Then I go back to the room and I open the door and if a pin dropped, it would have been the loudest sound ever. They were both: she was wearing her clothes, he was just laying there, and I went over to the side of the bed where we would normally sleep and I think I picked my charger or something and I went to sleep in the guest room and I left them there. That’s how you know I suffer from delayed reaction. It took me so long in therapy to realize that I don’t react almost immediately. I’m the kind of person that it might take me three days, I would just wake up and be like “what?” I think it is a trauma response.
