“Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s Premier League match against Chelsea, while the rest of the squad is fully focused on preparation for that tie,” says an official statement from the club.

In the summer, there were numerous rumors that the Portugal international would leave United, with Chelsea being one of the teams mentioned as potential destinations. According to football.london, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was eager to play in the Champions League and the Blues began exploring a move in July.

Additionally, Ronaldo was reportedly willing to moving to Stamford Bridge, according to ESPN. Potter is holding his cards close to his chest, so it’s unclear whether Chelsea will pique their interest in the Portuguese star again.

Potter didn’t rule anything out in his remarks prior to the west Londoners’ Champions League matchup at home against AC Milan. We may discuss these issues for the rest of the day, but if they are not our players, I won’t talk to them about it, he stated.

Ronaldo’s future at the club has been called into question following the controversy at Old Trafford during the final seconds of the Spurs game. Chelsea might be tempted to take advantage of this chance given that Todd Boehly is rumored to be interested in the striker.

According to The Athletic, American billionaire Boehly spoke with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes in the summer to discuss a prospective transfer. Ronaldo, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign, reportedly had a chance to join Bayern Munich, but the German powerhouse turned it down.
