Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye, who played the character of Teni in the newly released movie “Gangs of Lagos” on Prime Video, has revealed that she initially wanted to play a different character in the movie. In the movie, Ademoye played the daughter of a ganglord who lives a sophisticated and sheltered life.

During a recent press conference, Ademoye disclosed that she had originally wanted to play the character of Gift, a gangster role played by Adesua Etomi-Wellington in the movie. It is common for actors and actresses to have preferences for certain roles, and it seems that Ademoye was interested in exploring a different type of character than the one she ended up playing.

“Gangs of Lagos” is a crime thriller movie that follows the story of a ganglord and his family, as well as the various characters involved in their criminal activities. “When I got the script, I saw a particular character, Gift, breaking bottles. I’m from the hood, from Ebute Metta, and breaking bottles is a norm. The lifestyle is a norm for me, so I thought I was going to be Gift, but then I saw I was playing Teni. So i called Osiberu, who co-wrote, co-produced, and directed the film, to make sure she hadn’t made a mistake with the role she assigned me…but Jade responded saying she didn’t want me to play a character many would expect, and instead wanted me to be someone different.⁣

“That kind of touched me because any time she wants to give me a character, she goes beyond something people would expect. That’s how much she believes (in me),” Bimbo Ademoye said.
