According to Melanie Hawayu, the sister of the woman involved, their father’s favorite dish was Pilau and it was also a favorite of her sister’s boyfriend. Knowing this, her sister dedicated herself to making the dish for their father.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend and his friends were waiting around town for the signal from her family indicating that everything was ready.

At around 2 pm, they received a text message instructing them to make their way to the venue as the tables had been set.

The plan between the woman’s mother and her boyfriend was to bury the engagement ring in a plate of Pilau, which she would eventually discover.

“Dad was initially against the idea, but since there were no better ideas, we decided to take a chance with the one we had and proceeded with it,” Melanie narrated.

Ms. Hawayu’s mother was responsible for serving the food and kept sending her daughter on errands while she buried the ring in the plate.

Meanwhile, Mr. Charo had already snuck into the compound and was waiting to surprise his girlfriend from behind.

As everyone sat at the table, laughter and joy filled the air as Mr. Charo tiptoed towards the table. However, his plan was abruptly halted when his girlfriend started choking on the food.

Everyone immediately sprang into action to help Ms. Hawayu as she left the table and ran towards her father for assistance. He hit her on the back three times, and she eventually vomited the ring.

“We never expected that to happen, but our father had expressed concern that it might. It was a close call, and it left our mother in tears,” revealed Oscar Habil, Ms. Hawayu’s younger brother.

Ms. Hawayu collapsed and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for a medical check-up.

Despite the ordeal, she woke up to find the engagement ring already on her finger and said ‘Yes’ to Mr. Charo’s proposal. He even insisted that he would marry her, whether she was alive or not.

In a phone interview, Mr. Charo expressed that he had learned a difficult lesson from the incident and acknowledged that their plan could have killed his wife. “The devil is a liar,” he added.

Ms. Hawayu, on the other hand, stated that although things did not go as planned, she did not feel bad about the family’s idea, as they all wanted to make her day special and unforgettable.
