Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes received his first red card as a United player in his 242nd appearance for the club on Sunday.

Fernandes was sent off in the 42nd minute after a challenge on James Maddison, with United already trailing 1-0 following Brennan Johnson’s goal.

The Premier League Match Centre confirmed via a tweet during the game that the red card had been reviewed by VAR, stating: “The referee issued a red card to Fernandes for a challenge on Maddison. VAR checked and confirmed the referee’s decision for serious foul play.”
