Erik ten Hag has been working nonstop to make Manchester United better on all fronts since his arrival in the summer.

While producing results has been his top focus, he has also been able to develop some of the club’s young players and enforce a set of clear standards that all club personnel must follow.

Additionally, Ten Hag has been able to dramatically enhance another aspect of the team’s game. In 38 league games last year, United only managed eight clean sheets.

They ended sixth, 13 points outside of the Champions League spots, with their lowest-ever point total in the Premier League era due in large part to their poor defense.

However, things have changed much for the better under Ten Hag. In their last 10 Premier League games, United has kept five clean sheets. With 26 games remaining, they are only three short of their season’s total.

It is largely because of a revamped defense, which features summer acquisition Lisandro Martinez prominently and Diogo Dalot, who went from being a backup to one of the first names on the teamsheet.

According to the Dutchman, the team’s tenacity and spirit were crucial to the most recent triumph, a narrow 1-0 victory over West Ham. It’s great to feel the fight we have together, and we have to keep that going, he said, adding that the team’s spirit is very strong.

“I had to be critical of the second half (against West Ham), and I also told the players that we need to manage the situation better. Although we need to improve, our attacking style of play and team spirit are fantastic. If we keep moving forward, though, I believe we are headed in the right direction.
