According to the activist, a man borrowed 56,000 naira from a popular loan app and was paying it back in installments until he became bankrupt. As he was unable to make payments, the lenders began harassing him for the money and even resorted to sending defamatory messages to his contacts, falsely accusing him of theft and fraud.

According to Mr. Ahmed Isa, the message was also sent to the man’s potential employer after he had gone for a job interview. Additionally, the man’s father-in-law received a similar message, causing him to block the man. The man lost everything and eventually became mentally ill as a result. The human rights activist cautioned people against using loan apps to borrow money.
