Man accused of robbing employer of clothes and stabilisers is in court.

Jackson Clinton was charged by the Lagos State Police Command on Friday in a Yaba, Lagos State, magistrate’s court for allegedly breaking into and taking his employer’s property in the Gbagada neighborhood of the state.

The defendant, 24, was brought before Magistrate Linda Balogun on two counts that bordered on stealing and breaking and entering.

In addition to other items, the defendant was accused of stealing his employer’s horsepower air conditioner, which was valued at N300,000, ten schoolbags, three clothing bags, three stabilisers, four compressors, expensive wines, and other items totaling N35,500.

In a brief for Haruna Magaji, the police prosecutor, Çhekwube Okeh, informed the court that the defendant had committed the crime in September 2023 at Plot 15 Ramitu Oluwakemu Street, Medina Estate, Ifako, in the state’s Gbagada area.

She said the defendant was hired by one Igbaboa Dolly to be her sales boy. But in the middle of the night, the defendant broke through the roof of the store and, with the assistance of his cronies, stole all of her belongings.

According to the prosecutor, the offenses violated Sections 309 and 287(7) of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Laws.

The charges stated in part, “That you, Jackson Clinton, did unlawfully break into the store of Mrs. Igbaboa Dolly through the ceiling to commit a felony and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 309 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015” at Plot 15 Ramotu Oluwakemi Street, Medina Estate, Ifako Gbagada Lagos, in the Yaba Magisterial District.

Nonetheless, the accused entered a not guilty plea to the charges that were preferred against him.

After hearing his plea, Magistrate Balogun granted him bail in the amount of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in the same amount.

She postponed the case’s mention until December 15.

Dolly revealed that she paid the defendant N60,000 a month and was accustomed to treating him like her employee after the court sat in disgust at the defendant’s plea. She did, however, state that she would have withdrawn the case if he had admitted to the crime in court.

This boy has no compassion. Each month, I give him N60,000, and I also take good care of him. Instead of withdrawing the case and letting him leave as I had anticipated, he simply declared his innocence.

“How are you going to perfect these bail terms now?” She posed her question to the accused.
