Enzo Fernandez has issued an apology following the posting of a social media video showing the Argentine squad chanting a racially offensive song about the French team.
Argentina, fresh off their 1-0 victory over Colombia in the Copa America final on Sunday, celebrated their back-to-back triumphs, having also won the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. In their exuberance, the team sang a song with derogatory references to the French squad, which included remarks about the African heritage of several French players.
The song made inappropriate references to the players’ backgrounds, including lines about their African heritage despite representing France.

In response, Fernandez took to his Instagram story to apologize, distancing himself from racism. He stated, “I want to sincerely apologize for the video posted on my Instagram during our national team celebrations. The song contained highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for those words. I stand against discrimination in all forms and regret being caught up in the excitement of our Copa America celebrations.”
