Before Thomas Tuchel was fired from his position at Chelsea due to a bad run of form, the Gabon international had only recently reconnected with his former Borussia Dortmund manager.

Despite acknowledging that Thomas Tuchel was “frustrated and heartbroken” when he was fired as Chelsea manager, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang said the Blues players needed to swiftly get used to Graham Potter.

In May 2021, Tuchel and Chelsea won the Champions League, but only 15 months later the German manager was fired after a poor run of results prompted new Blues owner Todd Boehly to act. His final match as manager took place in Europe, and it resulted in a 1-0 loss on the road at Dinamo Zagreb.

Aubameyang participated in that match for an hour before being removed since the former Barcelona player is still not fully match-ready. Together the striker and Tuchel were eager to rejoin at Stamford Bridge because they had an excellent working connection while they were both at Borussia Dortmund.

That reunion came to an end after one training session and a 60-minute run outside in Zagreb. After the Blues’ 1-1 home draw against RB Salzburg in Potter’s first game in charge, Aubameyang later spoke with Hayters TV about Tuchel’s resignation.

“Everyone is aware of my relationship with Thomas. When someone leaves the club, it is always sad. I obviously only had a brief encounter with him. When you play football, you may have to adjust to certain situations during the season very rapidly.

In response to a question about whether he had spoken with Tuchel since the club fired him, Aubameyang said: “Not yet. Naturally, I believe he was a little disappointed and unhappy, and I will make an effort to speak with him as soon as I can.

We’ve all had a crazy week, but that’s life; we have to adjust. I think there’s a little sadness right now, but hopefully things will improve soon.

At Chelsea, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has so far found it difficult to have a significant impression.
“Of course, I think it’s a little unusual for everyone, not only for me, but like I said, this is football, you have to adjust, and when you play for Chelsea, you need results as quickly as possible, so that’s why I’m a little irritated today,” the player stated.

Since joining Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window from Barcelona, Aubameyang has performed poorly in both of his appearances for Chelsea. Just nine months after leaving Blues rivals Arsenal due to a falling out with Mikel Arteta, the deal signaled his return to London.

The international player from Gabon was unable to complete the full 90 minutes in either of the contests against Dinamo Zagreb or Red Bull Salzburg. Aubameyang, who obviously views Potter highly as a manager, will be hoping that his luck improves under Potter.

We will try to learn from him and win as soon as we can, the striker said. “I think he’s a person who’s really positive, he’s a great character,” the striker said. “It should be simple because, in my opinion, his concept is quite clear. Of course, getting used to one another takes time.”
