Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed the stern warning he gave to the club’s two summer signings, Jadon Sancho and João Félix, before their transfers during the summer window.

Maresca made it clear to both players that if they “don’t work hard, then they won’t play” under his management. Sancho completed a surprise loan move from Manchester United with an obligation to buy, while Félix joined from Atlético Madrid.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth, Maresca said:

“Before they joined, I had a conversation with them. My message was clear: if you come here and don’t work properly, you won’t play. That was the same for Jadon and for João.

“I told them that I like them as players, but if they don’t work hard, it’s better they don’t come.”
