Darwin Nunez has been compared to former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez by former Reds defender Jamie Carragher. Like the Uruguayan icon did at the beginning of his Anfield career, the former England defender says the new acquisition is a miss.

Nunez joined the team this season after moving from Benfica for a record 100 million euros, but he has struggled to help Liverpool. In 12 games, he has five league goals and two assists.

Carragher believes Nunez will be a great asset to Liverpool and encourages the striker to don his boots as soon as possible in an interview with Sky Sports. I said:

He simply needs to be a little more clinical and calmer in some circumstances. I don’t think he’ll be a slick finisher because he has a really good shot with both feet; I think he’ll always put his foot on the ball. Nunez has scored more goals than in his debut season at Borussia Dortmund, as you mentioned [Robert] Lewandowski.

Nunez was compared to Suarez by Carragher.

And you consider another player here, Luis Suarez, whose finishing was a little erratic when he entered but who went on to become the best striker in the world in four or five years.

There are several players, but when I first noticed the timing, the shots were sloppy and went through the post, but you could see there was something there.

The Uruguayan can develop into a wonderful player, but the Liverpool veteran continued by saying that he needs to improve his finishing:

Nunez’s teammates may believe “we’re going to have something very amazing,” but you need to score more goals and take more shots for it to happen.
