Argentina’s national team won the 2022 World Cup by defeating France on penalties, and FIFA has said that it is looking into what happened.

The world governing body has “started proceedings” against the Albiceleste for what it believes to be violations of the fair play and player misconduct articles of the FIFA disciplinary code during and after the championship match.

As the Argentina team celebrated their third championship, videos of the celebration rapidly went viral, with contentious photos of Martinez receiving the Golden Glove trophy drawing criticism.

Despite Kylian Mbappe of PSG scored a hat-trick and making his penalty kick in the shootout, the Aston Villa goalie was also seen ridiculing the defeated forward.

He was also seen holding a doll with Mbappe’s face stuck on, calling for a moment of silence in the locker room following the game, and holding the doll.

Referee Szymon Marciniak issued yellow cards to five Argentina players, with Martinez receiving one for dancing after French misses and throwing the ball away before penalties during the shootout.

The Argentina Football Association may be required to pay a sizable fee if the Albiceleste decide to enter a guilty plea to any accusations that may be brought against them.

Even so, Ecuador and Serbia were punished with partial stadium closures for violating the discrimination provision, and Serbia was also found guilty of misbehavior, so they weren’t the only teams to catch FIFA’s notice.

Due to racist chants, Mexico was fined 100,000 Swiss Francs and ordered to play one game behind closed doors. FIFA also opened proceedings against Croatia for potential misconduct and offensive behavior violations.
