Due to Memphis Depay’s rumored wage demands, Juventus reportedly abandoned their desire to sign the FC Barcelona attacker. Manchester United is now thought to be interested.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Juventus has abandoned its pursuit of Depay in favor of pursuing Olympique Marseille attacker Arkadiusz Milik. Subsequent reports have suggested that United and Tottenham are now also interested in the Netherlands international.

Depay is expected to depart Barcelona for free after deciding to end his contract with the Catalan powerhouses. The La Liga team reportedly valued their star striker at £17 million earlier this week, but leaving for free makes financial sense.

Since Juventus is no longer a contender to get Depay, Tottenham and United may now compete to sign the superstar of the Netherlands before the transfer window closes. However, after being dumped by the Red Devils, a return to Manchester may be the attacker’s best option.

Richarlison’s £60 million transfer to Tottenham has significantly bolstered the team this summer, joining the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. While Depay would be a fantastic addition, the striker simply wouldn’t play as much football if he went back to Old Trafford.

After all, Depay has improved significantly since leaving Manchester United in 2016, and the 28-year-old might be the ideal short-term alternative for the Premier League’s top teams this season. Erik Ten Hag is eager to add a striker to United in the final week of the transfer market.

Depay has emerged as one of Europe’s top attackers since leaving United five years ago, and despite Tottenham’s potential interest in the exiled Barcelona player, the Red Devils would be crazy to pass up the opportunity to sign the forward this summer.

Depay, on the other hand, has significantly changed since his time at United, maturing considerably and improving as an attacker. Ten Hag needs Depay in his front line if he hopes to accomplish anything with the English giants this season.
