Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been officially appointed as the head coach of Coventry City.
Coventry City have officially named Frank Lampard as their new head coach, succeeding Mark Robins. The 46-year-old former Chelsea, Derby County, and Everton manager has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Sky Blues.
In a statement, the club announced:
“Coventry City are delighted to confirm the appointment of Frank Lampard as the Club’s new Head Coach. The 46-year-old will take charge for the first time this Saturday against Cardiff City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.”

Lampard will be joined by his long-time coaching partners Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, who bring experience from their previous collaborations.
Lampard’s managerial career began in 2018 with Derby County, where he led the team to a Championship Play-Off Final in his debut season. His success earned him a move to Chelsea, where he secured a top-four Premier League finish and Champions League qualification, as well as a place in the 2020 FA Cup Final. Following his time at Chelsea, Lampard managed Everton and later returned to Stamford Bridge as interim manager at the end of the 2022/23 season.
As a player, Lampard enjoyed a stellar career, most notably with Chelsea, where he made 648 appearances and scored 211 goals, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer.
Lampard takes over a Coventry side currently 17th in the Championship, just two points above the relegation zone. His appointment marks the first major decision by club owner Doug King, who assumed control in January 2023.
Lampard replaces Mark Robins, who was dismissed earlier this month after seven years at the helm. The Coventry job is Lampard’s fifth managerial role, adding to his spells at Derby, Everton, and two tenures at Chelsea.
