Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season, according to ESPN.

Begiristain, who has been instrumental in the club’s success since joining in 2012, played a pivotal role in appointing Pep Guardiola as manager in 2016. His departure casts new doubts over Guardiola’s future, as the manager’s contract also expires at the end of this season, and he has yet to clarify his plans beyond the summer.

In addition to securing Guardiola’s appointment, Begiristain was also key in bringing Erling Haaland to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Begiristain and Guardiola share a long-standing personal friendship, dating back to their time together at Barcelona.
