A recent report indicates that Erik ten Hag’s position at Manchester United is now uncertain, and the club is considering Roberto De Zerbi as a potential replacement.
Despite a successful first season in 2022/23 under Ten Hag, where Manchester United finished third in the Premier League and secured the Carabao Cup, this season has been less favorable. The team was eliminated from the Champions League group stage and currently sits in sixth place in the Premier League, facing criticism for lacking a distinct playing identity and witnessing underperformances from key players.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, following their recent involvement with the club, have been assessing potential replacements for Ten Hag in case a managerial change is deemed necessary. Brighton & Hove Albion’s De Zerbi is considered a leading candidate for the position, with reports suggesting interest from both Manchester United and Manchester City. 90min previously revealed that De Zerbi is also on Liverpool’s shortlist of potential replacements for Jurgen Klopp.

The MEN report further states that a well-placed source suggests Ratcliffe is not entirely convinced about Ten Hag. However, there remains a possibility for the current manager to salvage the season by securing a top-four finish and winning the FA Cup.
INEOS has been actively implementing structural changes at Manchester United since acquiring a 25% stake in the club. This includes bringing in Omar Berrada from Manchester City as the chief executive and targeting Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth for the role of sporting director.
Manchester United experienced their 15th loss of the season, and 10th in the Premier League, against Fulham, with a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford. Alex Iwobi scored the winner deep into second-half stoppage time. Despite this setback, it was United’s first defeat in all competitions in 2024 after a recent run of improved form.
