Manchester United has officially announced the departure of first-team coach Eric Ramsay, who will be taking on the role of head coach at Major League Soccer (MLS) side Minnesota United.
Ramsay, aged 32 and recognized as one of football’s top coaching prospects, has become the youngest manager in MLS history, accepting the position at Allianz Field.
With this move, Erik ten Hag’s coaching team at Manchester United is now composed of assistants Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag, supported by first-team coaches Darren Fletcher and Benni McCarthy.

The club released a statement, saying, “Manchester United can confirm that first-team coach Eric Ramsay will depart the club to join Major League Soccer team Minnesota United as head coach.”
“Eric, who will remain in his current role until after our game against Manchester City on Sunday, has been part of our first-team coaching group since joining from Chelsea in 2021. His responsibilities will be shared across the rest of the coaching team for the remainder of the season.”
The statement continued, “We would like to thank Eric for his contribution and wish him the best of luck in the US in his first head-coach role.”
In his statement to Minnesota United’s club channels, Ramsay expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m incredibly excited to be joining a club with such a strong football culture, a fanatic fan-base, and a brilliant infrastructure.”
He added, “I’ve spoken to a lot of the club’s staff throughout the process, and you can’t help but feel everyone’s passion for moving the club forward. There is a really exciting pathway for the future of the club, and I’m looking forward to playing my role in realizing that vision.
