Arsenal is on the verge of welcoming back midfielder Fabio Vieira as they gear up for their return to Champions League action next week.

Vieira, who joined Arsenal from Porto in July 2022 for a €35 million fee, has been sidelined since the end of November due to a groin injury that required surgery. During this period, the 23-year-old missed 14 games for Arsenal but is making progress in his recovery.

According to the Evening Standard, Vieira’s rehabilitation is going well, and he anticipates returning to training soon, with the hope of rejoining the team within the next two weeks.

This development comes as a significant boost for Arsenal, which has been grappling with injuries in their midfield. Currently, Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey are sidelined with ankle and thigh injuries, respectively. In response, the Gunners have called up academy players, including 16-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, to provide additional cover.

Nwaneri made a 13-minute appearance in the recent 6-0 victory over West Ham in the Premier League. Prior to his injury, Vieira had made 13 appearances for Arsenal’s first team in various competitions, scoring a goal in a 5-0 win against Sheffield United in October. Although he received a red card in his last Premier League match against Burnley, he did return to play one game for the Under-21 team.

Arsenal is set to face Burnley at Turf Moor this Saturday in their upcoming Premier League fixture before heading to Portugal to take on Porto in the Champions League next Wednesday.
